Talk by Ramona Bajema
Co-Founder of
Miyabi Charcoal

Thursday, February 4, 5:30 to 7:00pm

Co-founder of Miyabi Charcoal, Ramona Bajema, will give a talk on February 4th at 5:30 at Gallery 525 to discuss bamboo charcoal water filters.

Ramona will discuss how bamboo charcoal filters tap water and what particles it removes to make tasty drinking water. She will also show images of where the bamboo charcoal is made in Japan and the craftsmen, who have been making bamboo charcoal for generations.
Because bamboo charcoal is a sustainable material that can help reduce plastic waste, Ramona will also discuss how using bamboo charcoal will help eliminate plastic in households. She will address the modern paradox that perplexes us all: how to drink more water for our health, while lowering the amount of plastic that we use with bottles and cartridges.

Ramona explained how she found out about bamboo charcoal: "I was living in Japan, when my mother asked me to bring back charcoal for Christmas. Our tap water in Meiners Oaks tasted horrible, so we needed an affordable solution that did not require buying plastic cartridges for a plastic filter." Soon, Ramona told us, she had to bring back bags of bamboo charcoal for family and neighbors, who noticed that her home had better tasting water. "Bamboo charcoal seems to be a sustainable solution," Ramona says.  "But more people need to know about it."

Miyabi Charcoal is committed to sustainability: its packaging is 100% recycled material and is 100% recyclable. In addition, they use bamboo instead of wood kishu binchotan. "You have to cut a bamboo grove back for it to be healthy, but a tree takes 10 years to grow. We want to save trees - not turn them into charcoal," Bajema says.

Please join us in learning about the positive environmental impacts of and health benefits from drinking water that has been purified by Premium Bamboo Charcoal from Japan.
