Artist Michael McCarthy explores twists, humor and the element of surprise in ART OF THE UNEXPECTED, Return of the Man Child at Gallery 525.  Known for his whimsical figures in mysterious landscapes, McCarthy breaks new ground in this solo exhibition.  Inspired by Pop Art, comics and graphic novel art, McCarthy delves into the world of desires, ironic subtleties and flipped circumstances in real and surreal settings, not to mention quirky appearances by cartoon characters in his artworks, which he creates using graphic collage elements and paint on paper.  Above and beyond their astounding narrative qualities, the works hang tight on their own terms via McCarthy’s use of bold line, taut rendering of faces and figures, shapes, color and composition.    

Michael McCarthy is an iconoclastic, self-taught artist whose works have been celebrated in Ventura County for years, and whom has shown his artworks in solo and group exhibitions locally and nationally.
