This exhibit features the work of two artists, Asandra and Bruce Samia, working in different printmaking disciplines. Asandra creates monoprints and etchings via a solar plate printing process and Bruce Samia produces his images by digitally manipulating photographs. The commonality between the two involves the layering of imagery suggesting movement, dimension, texture, and the transparency of color. They both find inspiration in the Southern California light and geography utilizing representational and abstract imagery.
Asandra, originally from New York, currently residing in Ventura County, will be exhibiting mixed media work consisting of hand-pulled solar plate etchings and monoprints. She is a member of Inkspots, a printmaker’s collective in Ventura, as well as the Santa Barbara Printmakers. Each original print is a visual meditation on the balance of abstract form and Eastern-inspired representational images.
Bruce Samia, a Boston native based in Los Angeles and Marfa, Texas, works with digital imagery, drawings, and invented writing in his collages. His invented writings are inspired by ancient Arabic script and Asian languages. Samia’s work explores the way people perceive images, and represent the fragmented memories of a moment in time.
