Astrud and the Cosmic Caravan
|
ASTRUD AND THE COSMIC CARAVAN comes to Gallery 525, Sunday July, 17, 2 to 4pm
Astrud Castillo is a one of the Bay Area’s most beloved Kirtan artists as well as a long-time Yoga Instructor. Named by her music-loving parents after the Bossa Nova Singer Astrud Gilberto (“The Girl from Ipanema), she was born in Panama and moved to San Francisco in 1970. As a baby one of her beds was a guitar case, and the atmosphere of music instilled in her a deep connection to singing and sound.
Astrud has been leading Kirtan since 2000 and has shared her music as far away as India, where she leads annual pilgrimages. Kirtan is a call and response musical form that has now become a part of the world’s commercial mainstream music genres, wherein the entire body, mind and soul are transformed through the act of singing and sound. Playing alongside Astrud is her multi-talented band of musicians on Harmonium, Tabla, Djembe, and Electric Bass Guitar. Astrud asks us to come and sing in the key of "WE” and all are invited to be transported by the enchanting, exotic music of the Cosmic Caravan band.
Astrud and the Cosmic Caravan begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 17. Tea will be served and of course we will have our walls covered in Art for all to enjoy. Gallery 525 is located at 525 W. El Roblar Ave. in Meiners Oaks. $15 For more information: www.gallery525.com or call 805 798 0407.

Astrud is a San Francisco based Kirtan Wallah
who has been leading her Cosmic Caravan for over 5 years.
She performs coast to coast, near and far.
The opportunity to serve and her devotion and commitment to wakefulness and to the Divine is what motivates and inspires her.
She invites you to celebrate devotion, love, joy and the myriad of emotions that arise from being human, through the ecstatic practice of Kirtan.
Kirtan is a metaphor for how much we are like the sun and how each and every-one of us have the capacity to generate more light in the world one breath and mantra at a time.
The act of communing within music and chant regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs is one of the most beautiful and uplifting aspects of experiencing Kirtan. Yoga means to yoke to unite, to bring together and to make whole.
There is a longing to connect with spirit, with goodness, with light and with one another regardless of class or beliefs. Singing the sacred names awakens us from the inside out. The mundane is infused with devotion and suddenly becomes inspiring and meaningful. Join us as we sing in the key of “WE”!
