JENNIFER GRASMERE
Jewelry
I Grew up in Morrisville, PA and have been a resident of Ojai since '92. I have worked with silver for 12 years, learning hand-forging and soldering mostly by trial and error. I started silver smithing after buying all the equipment at a yard sale. There were a lot of tools and gas tanks and about 2 lbs of sterling silver included that I still use for my work today. I quickly found a silver smith class at the Oxnard Gem and Mineral Club. It was an 8 week class that helped me get started. I highly recommend that class!
I am drawn to the simplicity and beauty of byzantine jewelry that I see in museums. I love hammered chains and replicating the look and feel of old world jewelry.
A large percentage of my personal sales go to Mexico to a shelter for girls who have been rescued from the sex trade. I am also working on a non-profit called Chains Of Hope. My vision is to equip, empower and employ women in need teaching them silver smithing and how to make chains, bracelets, necklaces, rings and other jewelry which will be on sale at the future chainsofhope.com website. A split percentage of the sales will go to the Mexico shelter and the other percent to the women who make them.
