“Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind."

Assemblage is an artistic form similar to the medium of collage, yet uses images with three-dimensional elements. It typically employs found objects, but is not limited to these materials. The juxtaposition of sympathetic or incongruent elements combines to create new cohesive meanings. A form of art popular during the Surrealist and Dada movements, assemblage sparks new connections in the mind and is captivating to behold.
The assemblage format continues as a potent form of expression for artists today. In OJAI ASSEMBLAGE, artists locally use an assortment of materials to crystallize their artistic message. To quote contributor Dianne Bennett, the show is about “art made with trash and other objet trouvé, discards, decay, detritus, decadence, debris, dementia, demons and delight.”
