PERFORMANCE ART; It may not heal you but it will give you something to do with your madness!
We have become tamed:
In order to fit in
To make our families proud of us
To make a living
To feel safe
There are few safe places to let the authentic self out – that even we are afraid of.
I invite you to the stage, not to be wild, (as in out of control,) but to express the authentic self that you have imprisoned. We will write, memorize, find music to support our pieces, and perform for our friends in a safe environment.
Please come to this six week course plus the performance.
When: September 3rd – October 8th
Time: 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Performance, Friday, November 20, 2015
Where: Gallery 525 on El Roblar Drive in Meiners Oaks (Ojai)
Cost: $30 per class
Coach: Cynthia Waring, (805) 798-2930, call to attend
Cynthia Waring is the author of the book, Bodies Unbound, Ruminations of a Woolly Mammoth (a chap book of her poetry) and two one-woman performances. The first, a performance based on her book, also called Bodies Unbound, chronicles her experiences as a massage therapist in which she massaged over 30,000 people. She performed this piece over 100 times, from Los Angeles to Edinburgh at the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She is currently touring with her show, Songs To My Soul, a musical memoir that includes her stories and original songs. She was recently interviewed on Ventura TV as a performance art teacher by George Alger, where she also performed her poem, The Masseuse.
